MCBA Board of Directors (2018-2020) Profile
Winnie has been actively involved with MCBA since its inaugural in 1991 and officially served the Board since 2003. Winnie is a Business Development Specialist with over 25 years of experience in managing Canada-China partnership projects that promote business and economic development, knowledge exchange, technology transfer, joint research and capacity building. Throughout the years, Winnie has built a strong network facilitating critical linkages between Canadian and Chinese business, assist companies in their North America/Asian entry and expansion initiatives and support businesses in the development and early stage execution of their Canada/China strategies. Winnie also specializes in organizing international exchange events including forums and conferences, industry and sector information sessions, trade promotions and China business workshop series.
She has been Co-chair of the Confederation of Greater Toronto Chinese Business Association- China Trade Mission for three consecutive terms in 2010, 2012 and 2015.
With her business development and training background, Winnie is also actively involved in supporting business start-ups, youth and enterprise development. She has been a qualified business mentor to the Futurpreneur helping Canada’s young start-up entrepreneurs for over 10 years. Winnie is also a Board member of Heritage Mississauga.
Joseph joined the MCBA Board in 2008 and served as Vice President until now. He also has been the Co-chair of the Community Crime Awareness Day Events since 2010. Joseph’s business is mainly in product design and project development in North America, Asia and Europe. He has over 20 years’ experience in hi-tech manufacturing environments, and has been involved in Industrial and Product Innovation Projects and Seminars with many universities in Asian and North America.
Harvey joined as a member of MCBA in 2010 after he moved his import and wholesale business to Mississauga. He has been the president of Grand International Trading since 2001, supplying thousands of retailers with a variety of product lines across Canada. Apart from his work, he is always trying to contribute his time to the local community and help those who need a hand.
Carol has participated MCBA activities since 1993 and joined as a member in 2005. Carol works at Arbor Memorial Corporation since 1992 as Cemetery Director and Funeral Home Associate for 22 years. She has volunteered in community organizations such as: Yee Hong Centre, Chinese Golden Age Club and Chinese Association of Mississauga.
Pierre Wong was born in a little known French colony called Fort-Bayard (Kwong Chow Wan), China. After finishing high school at La Salle College in Kowloon, Hong Kong he went to study at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario and graduated with a B.A. degree majoring in Economics. As an entrepreneur, he ran a successful business for more than thirty years, importing and distributing his own brand of clothing across Canada. At the same time, he was also very much involved in real estate. He developed and built properties in the heart of Toronto, Chinatown and Mississauga. In 2007, he decided to put his financial expertise to good use and for the benefit of his own community. He joined Investors Group as a Financial Planner after being their client for more than 20 years. He believes everyone can achieve financial security just by taking the time to plan. To complement his day work he contributes his time and resources to many local charitable organizations in Mississauga.
Amy joined as a member of MCBA in 2007. She is the founder and store owner of Streetsville Treasures located in historical village in the city of Streetsville. With a passion for her own community and her store, she often takes part in local community events within Streetsville and Mississauga.
Stephen Chu joined the MCBA Board in 1996. He served as Secretary (1996-1998), Treasurer (1998-2004, 2016-2018), Vice President (2004-2008), President (2008-2012) and Honorary President (2012-2014).
He has been the co-chair of the Community Crime Awareness Day and has been in charge of the Annual Business and Community Directory for years.
He was one of the team leaders of the China Trade Mission 2010 and 2012. Mayors from GTA joined the Mission, including Mayor Hazel McCallion (Mississauga), Mayor Frank Scarpitti (Markham), Mayor Rob Burton (Oakville), Mayor Dave Barrow (Richmond Hill), Mayor Jeff Lehman (Barrie) and Mayor Susan Fennell (Brampton).
He started his career at Price Waterhouse in Hong Kong and has 35 years’ experience in taxation, auditing, financial and management accounting. He was the Director of Accounting and Accounting Manager of various Fortune 500 Companies in Hong Kong and Canada. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant in Canada and with his own practice in Mississauga since 1994.
Immediate Past President
Lilian is the Director, Business Development and Human Resources for Nations Fresh Foods – a new brand of the Oceans Fresh Food Market in Ontario, Canada.
Lilian joined MCBA in 1998 and has been the President of the Mississauga Chinese Business Association (MCBA) for two terms (2012-2014) & (2014-2016) as well she is the President of the Hamilton Chinese Business Association.
She has over 25 years of experience in the human resources field, specializes in providing high impact training, coaching and performance enhancement services to organizations, individuals and professional delegations.
In her role as the President of MCBA, Lilian was one of the Team Leaders of the China Trade Missions organized by the Confederation of Greater Toronto Chinese Business Association, in the years of 2012 and 2015.
Besides business development, she has been actively involved in community service for over 15 years and was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal Award in 2013 in recognition of her contribution to the community. In March 2016, Lilian was awarded the Leading Women’s Award by the Ontario Minister Responsible for Women’s Issues.
In addition, Lilian sits on a number of boards and committees, including the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (DIAC) of the City of Mississauga and the Global Hamilton Council of the City of Hamilton.
Lilian holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) and is also a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), an internationally recognized designation in the human resources field.
Secretary & Director
Pierre joined the MCBA in 2016. Pierre is a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (R.TCMP) and Registered Acupuncturist (R,Ac), Massage Therapist (RMT). Pierre is the Director of Admissions in Canadian College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. His goal is to bring old world knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine education into Canada, and integrate with our society here.
Yvonne Law joined the MCBA in 2016 as a member, and served as a Director of Board since 2017.
Prior to coming to Canada, Yvonne has worked as an Immigration Officer at the Hong Kong Immigration Department. Currently based in Markham and Mississauga, she runs her own business called Sunny Tours. With over 20 years of experience in the tourism industry and fleet management, she provides inbound tours for guests from Asia along with a tour bus fleet. In addition, she also offers tour bus services to local customers in Canada.
From 1996 to 2016, Yvonne has been the project manager of the Canada China Economic and Cultural Centre, where she previously managed and coordinated visits for Chinese delegations. She still currently organizes visits for other concerned parties, utilizing her experiences to ensure success.
In addition to business development, she participates in volunteer activities by organizing tours for seniors, non-profit organizations, and travel industry associations. She is also involved with communities by contributing her time and donating to different organizations.
Zoheir Hasanbhai joined the MCBA Board in April 2014. Based in Mississauga, he is Executive Director of Can-Education Consortium, recruiting international students from East and South Asia, West Africa and South America to study in Canada. He was an education-sector member of the MCBA delegation in the 2012 China Trade Mission.
Zoheir is currently the President of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association – GTA Section. He mentors young entrepreneurs at MBEC’s Summer Company. Other than English, he speaks conversational Cantonese, Gujarati, with a splash of High School French.
Originally from Hong Kong, Marco moved to Canada and settled in Mississauga since 1997.
Marco has developed an early interest in banking and financial industries in his early-20s. Beginning his career as Credit Officer at RBC in 2008, Marco then found his passion in residential mortgage field and becomes a RBC Mortgage Specialist that services across GTA.
Marco maintains excellent working relationships with clients, lenders and real estate professionals across GTA. He has proven that hard work, strategic thinking and a sharp client focus can make the difference in mortgage industry.
Patrick started with the Young Professionals of MCBA in 2008 and joined the MCBA in 2010. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA), Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) and Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS). As a Senior Manager at Grant Thornton LLP, he helps clients with forensic and investigative accounting, managing fraud risk, complex data analytics and anti-money laundering consulting.
Michael joined the MCBA Board in 1996. He is the Alternate Branch Manager for Investia Financial Services Inc. Michael has over 20 years’ experience in the insurance field and specializes in Group Benefit Insurance and Financial Services.
Etta works for CCN Media as the General Manager and Deputy Editor-in-chief since 2005. A conglomerate of Today Commercial News, Property Weekly Magazine, BEST Chinese Weekly, WeChat: CanadaTCNnews and website: www.todaycommercialnews.com. She assisted the Publisher to set up a new operation including Editorial, Production & IT, Advertising, Circulation and Administration departments. Working together with a talented team, Today Commercial News has been a new Voice in the Chinese community. With editions in 5 cities, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary, Today Commercial News is now the #1 in readership and circulation for FREE Chinese newspaper in Canada.
In addition, Etta has initiated various sales and marketing projects for clients in different business sectors both in Canada and China. She continues to explore new ways to make life more interesting in the changing world of today. Etta lives in Mississauga with her family.
Jenny has joined the Board since 2003. She has more than fifteen years’ experience in business management of strategic business planning and presentation, financial integrity and operation policy. Jenny’s business of project management of Alternative Energy Products has been started in Mississauga, Ontario. She has been a committee member of CCAD for the past ten years working with over 200 volunteers at the event.
Harry joined the MCBA Board in 2002. He is a police officer with the Peel Regional Police. He is the chief coordinator between MCBA and Peel Regional Police. He has been a committee member of the Community Crime Awareness Day since 2001.
Blanche joined the MCBA Board in 2002. She is actively involved in many social and charitable functions in the GTA, a committee member of the Annual Gala of the Confederation of Greater Toronto Chinese Business Association, Ambassador of Mon Sheong Foundation and was Team manager of the MCBA Dragon Boat team in 2002 and 2004.
Blanche graduated from the University of Toronto. As Financial Centre Manager at Sun Life Financial, she is responsible for managing, recruiting, training, and motivation of all members of the Financial Centre team. Blanche who has over 20 years of experience with Sun Life, believes strongly in continuous improvement and has attained numerous industry designations such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS) and Elder Planning Counselor (EPC).
Shuang recently joined MCBA as a director. Shuang has been with Royal Bank of Canada for over 8 years and has worked at head office finance and Capital Markets before joining Personal and Commercial Banking as a Commercial Account Manager. Shuang manages a portfolio covering various industries. Her mandate is to provide integrated financial advice and solutions to commercial clients and help them grow their business. Based in Mississauga, Shuang focuses on Asian markets mainly in the west region including Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Hamilton, Waterloo and London. By leveraging her language capabilities, Shuang is strongly committed to helping Chinese business owners establish and expand their footprint in Canada.
Shuang holds an MBA from Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CGA).
Raymond joined MCBA board in 2018. He has 23 years banking experiences with HSBC currently holds position of Branch manager at Mississauga Chinese Centre branch. He also holds a PFP designation and is available to offer advice on both banking and investment products in the community.
Lyman came to Canada as an International student and has graduated from University of Western Ontario in 2009.
With the help and advise from MCBA, Lyman started his own business in 2010 in the industry of furniture trading and wholesale. Based in Mississauga, the business has been growing and delivering quality outdoor products to the community. He has strong knowledge in the industry and extensive experience in furniture branding.
Lyman has been a member since 2014. Recently, he has started to serve as director at the MCBA board in 2019. Apart from his work, he is excited to work with an amazing group of people in MCBA and is looking forward to contributing more to the community.
